What is an HVLS fan
A slow, giant ceiling fan that moves air across the whole floor
An HVLS fan (high-volume, low-speed fan) is a large industrial ceiling fan, 12 to 24 ft across, that turns slowly, at 60 to 90 RPM for E-Cool models, but moves a very large column of air. The air spreads out across the floor and creates a steady, gentle breeze over a wide area.
That moving air makes people feel cooler, clears hot spots and helps dry damp floors, while each fan draws only 0.9 to 1.5 kW. One 24 ft E-Cool HVLS fan covers about 11,688 sq ft, an area that would need many conventional ceiling or pedestal fans.
Compare sizes
Four sizes, 12 to 24 ft, all with PMSM motors
| Diameter | Coverage | Motor power | Speed | Airflow | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 ft | 5,382 sq ft (500 m²) | 1.2 kW | 90 RPM | 5,000 m³/min | 75 kg |
| 16 ft | 7,535 sq ft (700 m²) | 0.9 kW | 70 RPM | 7,500 m³/min | 110 kg |
| 20 ft | 8,612 sq ft (800 m²) | 1.0 kW | 65 RPM | 9,800 m³/min | 120 kg |
| 24 ft | 11,688 sq ft (1,086 m²) | 1.5 kW | 60 RPM | 10,800 m³/min | 125 kg |
All E-Cool HVLS fans use permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors and six blades, and run quietly enough for hospitals and offices. Installation is quoted separately after our team checks the roof structure and clear height.
Benefits
Why warehouses and factories switch to HVLS fans
Covers large floors
One fan replaces many small fans and removes hot spots across thousands of square feet.
Low power per square foot
Each fan draws 0.9 to 1.5 kW, so the running cost per square foot cooled is very low.
Quiet
Slow-turning blades make HVLS fans quiet enough for hospitals, offices and showrooms.
Drier, safer floors
Steady air movement reduces moisture and condensation on floors and stored goods.
Lower HVAC costs
In air-conditioned buildings, better air mixing can cut HVAC costs by up to 30%.
Low maintenance
PMSM motors and a simple six-blade design keep upkeep to periodic checks.
HVLS or ordinary fans?
How an HVLS fan compares with standard ceiling and pedestal fans
| HVLS fan | Standard ceiling or pedestal fans | |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage per fan | 5,382 to 11,688 sq ft | A small area under or in front of the fan |
| Speed | 60 to 90 RPM, gentle steady breeze | Fast, with a strong draught close up and little air further away |
| Fans needed for a large floor | A few | Dozens, each needing wiring and upkeep |
| Noise | Low | Rises with the number of fans |
| Best for | Warehouses, factories, halls, gyms, malls | Small rooms, offices and homes |

Where they work
Where HVLS fans make the biggest difference
Warehouses and distribution centres
Keep pickers and loaders comfortable across large floors and aisles.
Factories and production halls
Remove hot spots around machines and keep air moving over long lines.
Gyms, malls and showrooms
Quiet, even air movement for customers without the draught of fast fans.
Stadiums, airports and exhibition halls
The 24 ft model covers very large open spaces.
Workshops and supermarkets
The 12 ft model suits workshops, showrooms and supermarket aisles.
With evaporative coolers
Pair HVLS fans with industrial coolers to spread cooled air further across the floor.
Choosing and installing
What decides the right HVLS fan
Floor area sets how many fans you need; roof height, beams, racking, lights and overhead cranes decide where they can hang and which diameter fits. Larger fans cover more floor per unit and turn slower, so for big open floors fewer 20 or 24 ft fans usually beat many small ones.
Our team surveys the building, plans the layout and mounting, and quotes installation separately. Site visits are free in Mumbai and nearby areas of Maharashtra; for other locations a visit fee is charged based on the location.
FAQ
HVLS Fans: common questions
What does HVLS stand for?
HVLS stands for high-volume, low-speed. An HVLS fan is a large ceiling fan that turns slowly but moves a very large volume of air across a wide area.
How many HVLS fans do I need?
Divide your floor area by the coverage of the size you choose: about 5,382 sq ft for 12 ft, 7,535 for 16 ft, 8,612 for 20 ft and 11,688 for 24 ft. Obstructions and roof height change the layout, so we confirm it on a site visit.
Which HVLS fan size is best for a warehouse?
For large open warehouses the 20 ft and 24 ft fans give the most coverage per fan. Where racking or low beams limit space, smaller 12 or 16 ft fans fit better.
How much electricity does an HVLS fan use?
E-Cool HVLS fans draw 0.9 to 1.5 kW depending on size, using permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors.
What is the price of an HVLS fan?
HVLS fans are quoted to order. The price depends on size, quantity, mounting and installation at your site. Send us your floor size and roof height for a quotation.
Can HVLS fans be used with coolers or AC?
Yes. HVLS fans spread cooled air from evaporative coolers or AC further across the floor, so the cooling reaches more of the space.
Is installation included?
Installation is quoted separately after our team checks the roof structure, clear height and obstructions.
What is the HSN code for HVLS fans?
E-Cool invoices HVLS fans under HSN 8414 59 30.
